An unpopular and unpleasant prediction about Ukraine

Honestly I think at this rate without a feasible peace plan – and given that the imperialist West almost never backs down from its forever wars — I don't think Ukraine will exist as a nation state anymore.

Honestly I think at this rate without a feasible peace plan – and given that the imperialist West almost never backs down from its forever wars, with France and America messing with Viet Nam for 30 years after WWII and the wars in Afghanistan for 40 years, for example — I don't think Ukraine will exist as a nation state anymore.

On its own as a nation, Ukraine has the extremely corrupt and the neofascists in significant political power. Such a country is already a nightmare on paper, and so much worse to live in if you are targeted by these fascists as the people in the Donbass were, who were killed in a war that left 14,000-15,000 dead prior to 2022 and were denied access to social services and utilities. And such a country could hardly be tolerated on the border of Russia of all places, whose predecessor, the Soviet Union, lost 27 million people in the Great Patriotic War against the Nazis.

Ukraine has spent more than ten of the thirty or so years of its independent existence under neofascists in significant political power.

Is Ukraine as a nation that different to 1917 when the West tried to break apart the Russian empire or to 1940s under the era of fascist Nazi collaborators?

I believe that it may be that Russia decides that it will have to take Kiev, like what happened to Saigon in 1975 and Kabul in 2021.

As an apt comment on RT I saw wrote, Ukraine is already politically, economically, socially and demographically dead. Perhaps I would add geographically too.

It's virtually bankrupt or on the brink of declaring bankruptcy. The Lugansk and Donetsk regions especially already wanted to join Russia for 10 years. An entire generation of Ukrainians has been lost to carry out the wild whims of the neofascists.

Peace agreements are pretty much the only viable path to possibly keeping Ukraine intact as a nation state. But given the Ukrainian side's consistent record of failing to adhere to these, of constant aggression to its former south-eastern regions, of its inclination to gross massacres (Bucha massacres) and terrorist acts (Kerch Bridge attack, implication in the Moscow terror attack), as well as of basically being a puppet to the whims of the Western empire, I don't know that these are going to be likely.

The Minsk agreements would have kept the Donbass with Ukraine, but they were not popular among Ukrainian liberals and the neofascists, and there kept being violations of ceasefires which led to the decision of Russia to massively intervene in 2022.

Minsk Part 2: the Donbass Proletarian Hydra
Introduction In the last article, we introduced the idea that the liberal Ukrainian elite was opposed to the Minsk agreements on Eurocentric grounds. They feared that implementation of Minsk would end Ukraine’s chances of joining the EU and NATO. This article will explore the logic of this argument.
Minsk series 3: Liberal disenfranchisement
Our first article in this series explored how Ukrainian liberal perceptions of the population of Donbass were determined by the assumption that the region was a cancerous trap threatening Euro-Atlantic integration. Our second article discussed propositions to abandon the region entirely.

China's 10 point peace starting platform also seems wonderful at this stage. It also called for respecting the territorial integrity of nations. But again, given the record, I don't think we're going to get to this.

I think in the end, Ukraine's independence as a nation state will be very short-lived, relative to the centuries-long history of Russia.

Ukraine had a good chance at this independence, but it seems like it has thrown it away. The industrial Donbass region was given to Ukraine because it can be very hard to start a new country without extensive proper ability to sustain itself. To oppress this region, and to have the politically corrupt in power, and to have the neofascists in power is an extremely sad and wasted opportunity to the say the least.
