The Invitation

All around the world, especially for the last few decades, the peoples of the world have been fiercely overthrowing and resisting colonisers, as well as their world order whereby the exploited masses labour to serve the whims of the few, under the constant threat of violence, poverty, starvation and disease.

The question for people in coloniser nations is whether they support these revolutions and help to overthrow this existing world order, or continue to placidly live off the plundered wealth of others in a world order that was made for them and provide their staunch support for the status quo.

Julian Assange found himself targeted, hunted, brutally imprisoned, tortured, and threatened with assassination by the CIA, like so many dissidents, revolutionaries and civilians of the Third World, when he revolutionised, through WikiLeaks, a core aspect of our relationship with the empire that controls us, and decidedly committed his life to this cause. The empire has a sprawling network to watch and control us and our every move, and also to carry out all of its operations, from organising coups to launching wars, and from spying to torture. By a beautiful, brilliant combination of journalism and technology, he pioneered a platform that enables whistleblowers to anonymously share vast records of all the machinations of the empire – from cables to war logs. And here with WikiLeaks, the empire can be damned with volumes and volumes of glaring, condemning, irrefutable evidence – all its crimes in the light for all to see.

(One after the other, at the recent Nightfall conference for Assange in Melbourne, Yanis Varoufakis, Dr Ruth Mitchell, Professor Emeritus Joseph Camilleri OAM and Alastair Crooke outlined what culminated in the above.)

For the last few decades and centuries, nations of the world have overthrown colonisers, fought off imperialists and orchestrated hard-fought, glorious revolutions to rally for decent societies where all have the ability to thrive and live in harmony.

Even while the empires sought to quash rebellion and aspirations for a vibrant future with genocide, wars, sanctions, torture, coups, assassinations, they have been met with fierce resistance from the colonised peoples of the world who still have an undying spirit fighting for freedom.

Even under a total land, air and sea blockade on Gaza lasting more than a decade, as well as multiple wars, massacres and attacks on Gaza, Palestinian freedom fighters Hamas still managed to stage a brilliant operation on October 7, 2023 and break through the walls of the Israel genocidal occupation and invasion of Palestine. Now Palestinians are facing total, barbaric destruction from Israel.

We still confront these forces from the empire.

NATO is one of the prominent structures used to grotesquely preserve the status quo through the most brutal use of military force: it has been publicly agreed between NATO and the EU for example that they aim to protect the interests of the "golden billion". Alongside other U.S. alliances of destruction, they have destroyed entire countries that tried to resist the existing world order, including Iraq and Libya, and are still vehicles for Western imperial aspirations today.

And the neocolonial "climate movement" is one whereby Europeans and Westerners still seek to control the affairs of African and Latin American nations.

Instead of preserving the status quo, we invite you, the people in the nations of colonisers, to join us, alongside the peoples of the world;

  • to dismantle the colonial and neocolonial structures of exploitation that you inhabit
  • to relinquish the control that you are so used to exercising over the affairs of others
  • to unconditionally stop your wars of aggression against us, as well as withdraw all your military forces, and to support reparations and justice for all those individuals and nations whom you have wronged and maimed
  • to free our heroes, brothers and sisters whom you have imprisoned
  • to support our liberation movements and efforts against oppressors

so that we can build a world where no country retains domination over another; where every individual has all that he or she needs and is free to contribute to the very best of humanity; where the peoples of the world interact with joy, love, creativity, and generosity instead of through domination, subservience, cruelty and barbarism.
